Core Trends this Summer 2014

Although you may feel like its impossible to stay on-trend, we have trawled the net to give you a brief overview of this year’s Spring and Summer trends from the catwalks of Paris, New York and Milan.  Instead of obeying all of the latest fashion laws word by word, why not use some of these ideas in your life this season to raise some discerning eyebrows among your crowd?  Have a look at this lot, and tell us how you feel about the world of fashion and trends in our poll at the bottom of the post.

We’ve divided everything up with silly titles, so you can be a fashionista across the board.

MOUTH

From rustling up a Nasturtium Pesto, or presenting some Key Lime Popsicles after a BBQ, Yum Sugar has a range of ubercool recipes:

Then, in typical high-brow style, the Guardian presented us with some crazy ideas from Healthful Chocolate right through to QR coded foods and even Edible Soil!  These should provide you with at the very least a foodie guffaw:

BACK

Selecting some of fashions guides to what to adorn one’s back with this season is always quite a challenge we feel.  From the real avant-garde concepts of what we see on the catwalk, it can sometimes be tricky to work this into your every day life.  We checked out what Vogue had to say and took colour themes of Red and Blue, as well as the idea of Wanderlust as a simple set of starting points.

So what is Wanderlust?  Vogue tells us to look to the Bohemian life of a traveller, exploring and expanding their minds.  Selecting tribal patterns, fringes on most things, and a dusty inspired pallette when it comes to colour.

We got in touch with local Style Superwoman Nichola English to get her view on looking at the catwalk, and then using this to help you to pick clothes:

“If you’re trying to translate a catwalk look into every-day-wearable it’s easy, choose either the high street or designer stores, and then simply add some inspiration from the catwalks. It can be anything from colours, fabrics to accessories, but don’t forget to stamp your own signature style all over the look.” Nichola is one of the North East’s top stylists.   Check her out here.

BED

Next up is how your home relates to the latest fashions.  By no way are we endorsing you to shred the designer paper you lovingly pasted onto your walls, or pull up your carpets!  Here the idea is to simply add into your home the things you find to be beautiful.  The question is, do you like the idea of Muuto?

Scandanavian Design, Finnish
Yellow Muuto Tea Set

Muuto is inspired by the Finnish word “muutos”, which means “new perspective”.

“To us good design starts with the person. We handpick the brightest design talent in Scandinavia and give them the freedom to express their individual story through everyday objects. Some want to alter the world, others find passion in colour and shape or draw deeply from personal experience. How do they see a chair, vase, lamp or any other everyday product?”

A loose framework to base a design movement around, but still definitely something with a consistent recognisable style.  See which piece you would happy add to your home.  If you are loving this, check out some discount here:

BABIES

We really enjoy seeing what the worlds innovators have created to help parents out there.  There really was no better resource than tapping into what was on show at the last Las Vegas expo on this.  From the sublime to the ridiculous, see which bits would make your life easier as a trendy parent:

The Mima faux leather pram is super cool! And our personal favourite

Mima Beautiful Xari Pushchair

So whether you want to be a trend setter, or simply on-point and clued up on whats happening in the world of fashion, either fork out for a new baby leather pram, or even add some red and blue coasters around the house.
